“Charlieuniformtango is, by any measure, one of the best post houses in the country. They have specialists in every form of video, motion, and audio content creation; from front-end production, all the way through short and long-form editing, sound-design and mixing, color-grading, motion graphics, 3D modeling, and online finish. If there’s something they can’t do, I haven’t found it yet. On top of all that, they’re among the nicest people on the planet. Working with them is an absolute pleasure, and your project–whether it be a Super Bowl spot or a music video–will be the better for it.”

-Jeff H.

“Having worked with post-production houses for over 25 years, I can attest that Charlie Uniform Tango is among the very best. Behind the family atmosphere is a serious group of editors, sound engineers, colorists, graphic designers, animators, and directors. Collaborative, creative, and consistently excellent, they always make the work better no matter what challenge we throw at them. Five stars all the way.”

what is post-production?

Post-production is the final stage of filmmaking, where the audio and film captured by the video production team is edited and slotted into place – creating a polished product. When you finish shooting all the footage for a film, you’re left with hours of video. If you were to watch this footage from start to finish, you’ll find it full of outtakes, repeated sections, and disconnected story beats. What you have at this point isn’t a film; it’s the pieces of a film, scattered haphazardly across a few hard drives. In post production, these mismatched puzzle pieces are filtered, tweaked, and put together into the recognizable form of a movie, tv show, commercial, or marketing video.

See “What is Post-Production?” for an in-depth understanding of the post-production process.

how long does post production take?

For shorter videos, like commercials or online content, post-production can range from a few days to a couple of weeks. For more extensive projects like feature films, documentaries, or television series, post-production can take several months or even longer. Longer projects involve a larger volume of footage, intricate editing techniques, complex visual effects, color grading, sound design, and meticulous attention to detail. That said, with a healthy budget, an exceptional post-house can greatly accelerate any necessary timeline to the final cut.

what happens in post production?

In post-production, the raw footage captured during production is transformed into a final cut through video and audio editing processes. These include video editing, where the best shots are selected, arranged, and trimmed to create a cohesive narrative; adding visual effects and graphics to enhance the visual appeal; incorporating music, sound effects, and voiceovers to enhance the audio experience; color grading to establish the desired mood and tone; and overall fine-tuning of the video’s flow, pacing, and quality. Post-production is where the pieces come together, giving the final polish to the video and ensuring it effectively communicates its intended message to the audience.

what are the stages of post production?

There are generally five stages in any post-production project, with many additional steps under each phase.

1) Picture editing (assembly, rough cut, fine cut)

2) Sound design (sound effects, music, composition, mixing)

3) Visual effects (3D models, matte paintings, animations, CGI, compositing)

4) Color grading (primary and secondary correction, color styling, shot matching, final touches)

5) Title, credits and graphics (concept, typography, layout, motion, animation, timing, rendering)

what does conform mean in post-production?

“Conform” refers to the process of matching the edited sequence of a video to the original high-resolution or master footage. This is done to ensure that the final version of the video aligns with the highest-quality source material. The conforming process also ensures that any changes made during editing, such as cuts, transitions, or effects, are accurately applied to the final version. Conforming is a crucial step in post-production, particularly for projects that require the highest level of visual quality and accuracy, such as feature films or high-end commercials.
